We are a mission-driven coffee company with the aim of improving the lives of coffee farmers by sourcing from small farms and specific regions known for their vibrant flavors and high-quality beans. We focus on ethical and sustainable farming practices and are dedicated to fostering a coffee community built on passion, quality and sustainable practices.
Our Coffee
The majority of our beans come directly from the lush, fertile highland regions of Nicaragua, where they’re cultivated under the protective canopy of shade trees. Shade-grown coffee isn’t just good for the environment; it’s good for the beans too. This traditional farming method allows the coffee cherries to mature slowly, developing a complex and nuanced flavor profile you won’t find anywhere else, but also promotes biodiversity and sustainable farming practices. The high altitude, volcanic soil, and shade from the canopy of trees produce low acidity coffee with a sweet, mild and chocolaty nuance. We will be offering single-origin coffee from other shade-growing regions around the globe as our company continues to grow.
How It Started
Roof Deck Coffee Company was founded by Rob Watts in 2020, initially as a hobby to learn proper coffee roasting methods, and to educate himself on coffee history, cultivation, and ethical sourcing. Disappointed with the stale, mass-produced options lining supermarket shelves, as well as the onslaught of online generic labeled drop shipping businesses, he yearned for a richer, more vibrant experience. This yearning quickly evolved into a passion, driving him to learn everything he could about coffee – from the bean's origin to the intricacies of roasting. Rob is currently enrolled in certified coffee courses through the S.C.A. (Specialty Coffee Association) and other educational outlets.
With an emphasis on shade-grown coffee from Nicaragua, Roof Deck Coffee offers gourmet roasted beans from this vibrant growing region in Central America, with occasional limited blends from other regions. Drawing from his Culinary Arts education and experience, Roof Deck Coffee Company also serves as a one-stop shopping experience for fans of his WATTSauce brand of Hot Sauce, seasoning blends, as well as his published works of Thrillers and Suspense. Signed copies of books will be sold exclusively through Roof Deck Coffee Company.
